As a mother of daughters, I want them to know you as the force of nature that they have the ability to become.

Dear Madame Vice President-elect,

First, I want to congratulate you and President-elect Joe Biden on your historic win. It was your combined campaign that brought out a record number of American voters, and for that you should be extremely proud.

But, this is just the beginning. Now the real work begins.

As the first female, black, and Indian American in the second highest seat at the White House, you bear the burden of having to set a new bar. You can’t get away with just being a “good” Vice President. A man could get away with just being “good”, but you have to be GREAT. You have to now prove to not just Americans, but to the world, that you are worthy of your position not just because of your gender and skin color but because of your inner power and strength. You won the seat, and now you have to earn your place in history.

All eyes are on you, especially your female supporters. All we ask is that you represent us well, and you make us proud that we used our voice to support you.

As a mother of daughters, I want them to know you as the force of nature that they have the ability to become. You are now the ultimate role model for little girls, young ladies, and women everywhere.

I’m sorry this burden has to be placed on you, but it is also an honor to have this on your shoulders. I pray that the next 4 years show you your true inner strength and power, and may we all prosper from your reign.

Sincerely,

A mother of daughters, a wife of a civil servant, and one of tens of millions of voters in America who used their power to support you
